Wexford Plantation

Hilton Head Island is one of America's great escapes. With 12 miles of beaches skirting the Atlantic Ocean, more than 20 championship golf courses, award-winning tennis, fine dining, biking trails, and more, it is difficult to imagine a finer place to live&until you step into Wexford Plantation.

Located on Hilton Head Island and renowned as one of the area's premier, upscale communities, Wexford Plantation, a 525-acre gated community, has homes ranging in size from 3000 square feet to over 10,000 square feet.

"It is the most unique, upscale community on the Island, probably on the east coast," says Jacque Johnson, a REALTOR with RE/MAX Island Realty who, with her husband, have been property owners for 14 years. "What I love about it is the harbour, boating and the people," adds Jacque.

Wexford has a 37.5-acre inland harbour with access to Broad Creek and the Intracoastal Waterway. The harbour is equipped with 24-hour lock-controlled access managed by a full-time harbour master and staff. It is one of only three such systems on the east coast, controlling tidal fluctuation and maintaining a constant water depth of eight feet. Wexford Plantation has an active boating community. The Wexford Plantation Yacht Club hosts excursion and social events throughout the year. There are over 270 boat slips, 135 in the main harbour and 137 are private, located behind homes with access to deep water. The Plantation's Harbour Homes and lots each feature a dock capable of mooring a yacht up to 75 feet in length.
Wexford's golf course and marsh view homes overlook some of Hilton Head Island's most beautiful landscapes. Since the first home was built on Wexford Plantation in 1983, the community has maintained strict rules on protecting the indigenous wildlife and plants. The neighborhood has thrived because of these efforts, providing a scenic backdrop for homeowners.

Homes that border the golf course blend within the perfectly manicured lawns, oak trees, ponds, pine trees and the wandering bird or reptile. Designed by well-known course architect Willard C. Byrd, it features 6,887 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. It also serves as the setting for annual qualifying for the PGA Tour's Verizon Heritage Classic.

Realtor Sam Mancuso of Dunes Marketing Group is an avid golfer and sells property in Wexford. He has also played the course several times.

"It's tight and challenging," he says. "You have to be precise off the tee. It also has the best finishing hole on the Island."

Between the harbour and the golf course is Wexfords championship Tennis Center, staffed with two full-time tennis professionals. Six Har-Tru courts, four that are lighted, are the site of daily play and ongoing competition for men, women and children. "There is something for everyone who enjoys an active lifestyle," adds Jacque. "Whether you are a boater, golfer, tennis player or just want to enjoy the elaborate clubhouse for afternoon tea, Wexford Plantation is for you."
The Wexford Clubhouse was designed to exude class and elegance with four custom fireplaces and a Tiffany glass skylight. It serves as the center of the community where meals are shared, basketball is played and numerous social events take place. The outdoor pool, gazebo and grill are also located here. For those who love a challenging game of croquet, there is no finer croquet lawn than the one maintained at Wexford Plantation.

The demographics of residents who live in Wexford Plantation are extremely diverse from young families with children to retirees. To accommodate buyers interested in a luxury home with little upkeep, Wexford offers Town Homes at Wexford on the Green, which overlook salt marshes, winding lagoons and Broad Creek. Patio-style Garden Homes are also available in a quiet enclave overlooking the community's waterways.

"Wexford is one of the most distinct plantations on or off the Island," adds Mancuso. "It's got a world class harbour, top quality tennis, a beautiful clubhouse and for some the ability to dock their boat in their own backyard."

For many residents, it is the privacy afforded them at Wexford Plantation that has drawn them to purchase there. A privacy only interrupted by the intermittent sounds of crickets, birds, water, breezes and the many social activities - bridge, book club, fishing, water aerobics...

For REMAX's Jacque Johnson, it is something more, "Although Wexford is unique in all that it has to offer, the greatest asset is its people."
